Beach Road Prawn Noodle House

Beach Road Prawn Noodle House has a rich history dating back to the late 1920s, when Mr. Lee Pee Tuan, the patriarch of the Lee family, set up a prawn noodle stall at Blanco Court. His son, Mr. Lee Seng Hoon, continued the legacy by moving the stall to North Bridge Road in the 1950s, and later to Haji Lane in the 1970s, where the name ‘Beach Road Prawn Noodles’ was established. In 1986, the third-generation successor, Mr. Lee Chee Wee, moved the shop to its current location at East Coast Road and introduced the signature Special Big Prawn Noodle. The fourth generation now carries on the nearly century-old family tradition.

There is no MRT station nearby, so most diners typically take a 15 to 20-minute bus ride from Eunos or Kembangan, or drive specifically to enjoy a bowl of prawn noodles.

Beach Road Prawn Noodle House offers affordable dishes, with the cheapest bowl of prawn mee priced at S$6.50. However, I recommend going for the signature Special Big Prawn Mee (S$12.50), which features large, meaty tiger prawns and is available in both soup and dry versions, also known as Jumbo Prawn Mee at the shop.

I couldn’t resist trying both the dry and soup versions—gotta go all in, right? The dry version came loaded with juicy tiger prawns, perfectly halved for easy devouring, and a punchy sauce that was so flavorful, I didn’t even need the soup. It had the perfect kick of sweet chili, a dash of pork lard, and smoky spice, making every bite a treat. And when I switched to the rich, briny soup on the side? Pure bliss—like the ultimate prawn noodle power duo!

I absolutely inhaled this bowl of prawn noodles! The noodles were coated in a sauce that was like a flavour party — sweet chili with a punch of smoky spice and just the right amount of pork lard for that extra richness. It was a perfect match with the briny, full-bodied soup that came in a separate bowl.

Keeping the noodles and soup apart was genius — I got to enjoy each bite to the fullest. I switched between slurping the noodles and sipping the soup, creating the ultimate prawn noodle experience. It was like a flavour rollercoaster
